Dr G Padmanabhan, Former Director and Emeritus Professor, IISc, Bangalore; Recipient of Padmshree and Padmbhushan, delivered a talk on ?Contours of Biomedical Research in India? on the occasion of the 15th foundation day of Institute of Science, Nirma University on Sep 5, 2019. Dr Padmanabhan presented a bird?s eye view of the current national and international status of health sector. He touched upon the unsolved challenges of developing vaccines against tuberculosis and malaria. He also talked about emerging fields like 3D Bio printing, Stem Cell Therapy, Mainstreaming of natural products as therapeutic agents, etc.
Dr Harsh Sheth, Head, Advanced Genomic Technologies Division, Institute of Human Genetics, Foundation for Research in Genetics and Endocrinology, Ahmedabad delivered a talk on “Detection and Prevention of Hereditary Cancers” on Sep 27, 2019. Dr Harsh has worked in this area at the Newcastle University, UK for a decade. Currently he has taken up first of its kind study in India regarding colorectal cancer.
