Online Webinar as a part of NSS Activity

An online Webinar for awareness on ‘Prevention of Child Sexual Offences Act’ (POCSOA 2012) was arranged by Sakshi (regd. NGO 1992) for NSS volunteers of Institute of Architecture and Planning on April 25, 2020. The Ministry of Youth Affairs, has agreed for Sakshi to deliver capacity building workshops in partnership with Directorate of NSS with the NSS volunteers to strengthen Youth as powerful enablers for creating a Constitutional Rights Based Enabled Environment in the context of Gender Equality with a focus on building awareness about POCSOA 2012.

Smita Bharti (Executive Director), Swarnim Sen (Lead Trainer of the workshop), Kanika Lakhera (Assistant Trainer) and Alia Khan (Assistant Trainer) from Sakshi organised and conducted the workshop. 68 student volunteers and 3 faculty members from Institute of Architecture and Planning participated in the webinar on Google Meet platform. An Informative presentation, well made videos and an interactive question answer session at the end of the session, were highlights of this webinar.

Online Session by NSS unit of Institute of Pharmacy
The NSS unit of Institute of Pharmacy organised an online live session on “Coping up with Mental Health and Stress Management” under the Government of Gujarat initiative for students of all the universities of Gujarat on May 24, 2020. The morale behind conducting this activity was to emphasise on the importance of mental health management during the Covid-19 crisis. The activity was carried out in two components – Online Survey followed by Live Therapy Session. Dr Chintan Raval (MD Psychiatry, Associate Professor, HoD of Psychiatry, GMERS, Patan) and Dr Vipul Shah (MD Psychiatry, Assistant Professor, GMERS, Patan) conducted the session on the Instagram handle of “nss_ipnu” attended by a total of 128 students.

Student Initiatives

  • Dirgav Patel, BPharm Semester IV student and NSS volunteer, Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University distributed 900+ sanitizers and 270+ food kits to the needy people in various COVID-19 affected areas of Ahmedabad for consecutive eight days. Dirgav helped the people residing in and around Vejalpur, Sarkhej, Maktampura, and Jodhpur ward in Ahmedabad. For his commendable service to society, Dirgav received a call from MLA Mr Kishorbhai Chauhan, appreciating his efforts and was awarded a letter of appreciation by the MLA himself.
  • Samay Chevli, a final year student of Institute of Architecture and Planning, is involved in social work during the Corona pandemic. He and his father, who is an Architect, as a team they have designed face masks for an NGO called ‘Prayas’. Also to sanitize the hands of passengers, the base design considering the anthropology of the human is prepared, which is going to be installed first at Surat airport which can be used once the airport service starts. They also distributed the masks to the people living at nearby communities.
