Ahmedabad Field Studio
The Institute of Architecture and Planning conducted two Field Studios from July 16 to Aug 9, 2024. The first studio,’Revitalising the Urban Core,’ engaged 25 students who studied two areas of the walled city of Ahmedabad. The study involved analysing urban form, old and new building typologies, socio-cultural and economic activities and accessibility of the place. Based on this, student groups proposed design interventions to revitalise public open spaces by addressing issues such as increased congestion, loss of street character, reduced socio-cultural use of chowks, lack of pedestrian access and lack of parking facilities.
The second studio, ‘Re-Imagine and Re-Design’, where students were tasked with redesigning two major traffic intersections: the Geeta Mandir Transport Hub Junction and the Odhav Panjrapol Junction. The students did extensive site mapping, surveys, interviews, and data analysis. They proposed safer, more pedestrian-friendly intersections based on data analysis and practical solutions.
