Achievements at International Level

Nirma Students Shine at the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) – Students Unmanned Aerial Systems (SUAS) 2024 Competition

Team Arrow (Rahul Patil, Aaditya Rampal, Mantra Patel, Neel Chhatrala, Jugal Gandhi, Raj Modi, and Aditya Raj Mageshwari), part of the SAE Nirma Collegiate Club, Institute of Technology, secured 3rd position among 67 international teams at the AUVSI – Students Unmanned Aerial Systems (SUAS) 2024 competition held in Maryland, USA from June 25-27, 2024. The team received a cash prize of $2,000 and a plaque in recognition of their outstanding performance. They competed against institutions such as Cornell University, University College London, North Carolina State University, Virginia Tech, Purdue University, McGill University, and several other universities from the United States, Canada, Norway, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Poland.

International Asia-Pacific Robot Contest 2024
Team Nirma Robocon, competing against 13 teams from various countries of Asia-Pacific region, won the prestigious Kajima Corporation Award at International ABU Robocon 2024 for innovative and robust designs of Robots during Aug 23-30, 2024.

Achievements at National Level

National Robocon Championship 2024

Team Nirma Robocon has once again demonstrated its unparalleled prowess in robotics by clinching the National Robocon Championship title, held from July 12 to 14, 2024, in New Delhi. Organised by Doordarshan and IIT Delhi, this event brought together the brightest minds and most innovative teams from across the nation. This year’s victory marks Team Nirma Robocon’s 11th national championship title, setting a new record in the competition’s history. After rigorous evaluations and challenges, 46 teams advanced to the final round.
As national champions, Team Nirma Robocon represented India as Team India at the International Robocon Competition held in August in Vietnam.
Robocon, short for Robotic Contest, is an international robotics competition that challenges university teams to design and build robots to complete specific tasks, fostering creativity, engineering skills and teamwork. The theme of Robocon 2024 was ‘Harvest Day.’ It revolves around tasks related to the stages of rice cultivation, including sowing, harvesting, and transporting the harvested grains to a designated storage area.

Startup Teams Incubated at Nirma University Achieve Success at the Invention Factory Programmes
The startup teams incubated at Nirma University have achieved significant success at the Invention Factory programmes, organised by the Maker Bhavan Foundation during May 27 to July 5, 2024. These events, held at IIT Gandhinagar and IIT Bombay, brought together bright minds from premier institutes across India, including IITs, NITs, BITS, and other leading universities. The programme provided a platform for young innovators to develop and present their cutting-edge projects.

At IIT Bombay, Nirma University student Vrushti Shah led her team to develop an advanced Muscle Pain and Cramp Relief Device. Shah’s innovation earned her team the top prize of Rs 2,00,000, highlighting the device’s potential impact on improving the quality of life for those experiencing muscle pain.


Saket Joshi, another Nirma University participant, competed at IIT Gandhinagar. His team developed a device aimed at treating Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS). The RLS Treatment Device utilises personalised electrostimulation, tailored through machine learning algorithms, to alleviate symptoms. This innovative approach secured Joshi’s team the second runner-up position and a prize of Rs 50,000, recognising the significant potential of their work in healthcare technology.

National Open Automation Challenge 2024
Team Green Guardians, 3rd year BTech Electronics and Instrumentation students, secured 3rd position at the National Open Automation Challenge 2024 organised by B&R Automation at Dr D Y Patil Institute of Technology, Pune on July 11, 2024. The team implemented the plastic waste recycling process to safeguard the environment using different robotics and automation tools such as Automation Studio, MapView and Scene Viewer, which was well appreciated by the jury and audience.

India’s Best Design Student Awards 2024

Anshav Maheshwari from the Institute of Design was one of the recipients of the ‘India’s Best Design Student Awards’ hosted at Ritz Carlton, Pune on Aug 31, 2024. He was among the 19 awardees selected from 100 contestants from across design schools of India and across categories of Product Design, Communication Design, Digital Design, Spatial Design etc.

StrategiX 2024: National Case Challenge
The team comprising Kenil Rajyaguru, Chhavi Mittal, Ayush Jha and Sounak Bhunia, students from the Institute of Management, stood Runner-up in the StrategiX 2024: National Case Challenge, organised by SVNIT, Surat on Aug 24, 2024. Over 3300 teams nationwide participated, all competing to solve real-world business cases.

Other Achievements

  • Team Arrow from the Institute of Technology secured 2nd place at the Drone Development Challenge (DDC) 2024 organised by SAEISS (Society of Automobile Engineers India Southern Section) at SRM University, Chennai from Aug 29 to 31, 2024.
  • NUMAISH, the official music band of Nirma University, achieved the Runner-Up position in the ‘Battle of Freedom’ music competition organised by 94.3 – MyFM as part of the Independence Day celebrations on August 12 and 15, 2024 at Box Park, Gota, Ahmedabad.
  • Rushi Arpan Shah secured 3rd prize at the Finovate Hackathon 2024 organised by IIT Gandhinagar in August 2024.

Intra-University Level Achievements

Disceptatio 2024: Conventional Debate Competition

The second edition of Disceptatio, the Conventional Debate Competition witnessed participation from 32 teams across the constituent institutes of Nirma University on Aug 31, 2024. Nandini Zunder and Shreya Bharti from the Institute of Law emerged as the winners. Purnoor Hussain from the Institute of Design was adjudged as the Best Proposition Speaker and Sana Narmawala from the Institute of Technology was adjudged as the Best Opposition Speaker.
