NICOM 2024
The 27th Nirma International Conference on Management (NICOM 2024) was organised by the Institute of Management from Jan 4-6, 2024 on the theme ‘Business in Uncertain Times: Strategies and Capabilities to Manage Disruption and Growth’. The inaugural address was delivered by Mr Ramesh G Iyer, VC & MD of Mahindra Finance. Other keynote speakers included Mr Manish Bhatt, Founder Director, Scarecrow Communications Limited and Dr Nikhil Agarwal, CEO of SIIC and AIIDE, IIT Kanpur. The valedictory ceremony chief guest was Mr M Anna Durai, Executive Director & State Head, IOCL Gujarat. Over 200 papers were presented by academics and practitioners from India and abroad.

Accathon 2024 
Institute of Commerce in collaboration with the Indian Accounting Association, and the Institute of Technology, Nirma University organised Accathon 24, a national-level interdisciplinary Accounting Hackathon for undergraduate students. The nationwide competition aimed to foster a culture of product innovation and problem-solving. Two themes, ‘Taxation and Financial Analysis of unlisted companies’ were explored by 32 teams in the online first round, with 10 teams advancing to the on-campus second round. The offline rounds were conducted on Jan 24-25, 2024. The winning teams were HiFi Team (Taxation) from Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education, Tamil Nadu and Money Wisdom (Financial Analysis) from Parul University, Vadodara.

ILNU-SICI Lecture Series
Institute of Law in collaboration with the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI) hosted a lecture series titled ‘Engendering Law: Status and Challenges’ from Jan 22-25, 2024. The distinguished guest lecturers for the series included Ms Flavia Agnes (Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India), Mr John Paul Boyd (Principal, John Paul Boyd Arbitration Chambers, Canada), Prof Kamala Sankaran (National Law School of India University, Bangalore), Prof Judith Fudge (McMaster University, Ontario), Prof Archana Mishra (University of Delhi), Prof Mrinal Satish (National Law School of India University, Bangalore) and Prof Ubaka Ogbogu (Faculty of Law, University of Alberta). The series delved into the intersection of gender and law, offering a comparative analysis of legal provisions and practices in India and Canada.

Seminar on Impurity Insights
Impurity Insights, a US Pharmacopoeia Initiative in collaboration with the Society for Pharmaceutical Dissolution Science (SPDS) and the Department of Pharmaceutical Analysis, Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University was organised at the Institute of Pharmacy on Jan 25, 2024. The seminar delved into the intricacies of managing organic and inorganic impurities with a focus on key USP General Chapters.  A series of talks on topics ranging from the International harmonisation process for USP general chapter <621> to Impurities and Forced Degradation studies as well as value beyond Vials and Risks associated with secondary standards, to name a few. It also emphasised the significance of Pharmaceutical Analytical Impurities (PAI), and Reference Standards (RS). Dr Antonio Hernandez Cardoso, Senior Principal Scientist, USP; Dr Mukesh Kumar, Founder Director, Otriv-Q3 Research Pvt Ltd and representative of SPDS; Dr Ravi Reddy, Vice President, RSD group, USP; and Dr Kailash Asati, Zydus Lifesciences Ltd addressed the audience.  Mr R Kartik Iyer, Associate Director, Strategic Customer Development, USP; Ms Zeenat Khan, Associate Director, SCD and Mr KRC Reddy, Chief Business Officer, Chromachemie India Pvt Ltd were also present.  Delegates from various pharmaceutical industries, faculty and students of the Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University actively participated in the seminar.

NIPiCON 2024 
The 7th Nirma Institute of Pharmacy International Conference (NIPiCON 2024), held from Feb 7-9, 2024, organised by the Institute of Pharmacy, focused on the theme ‘NextGen Therapeutics: Multidisciplinary Research Approaches for Drug Development and Delivery – Bridging the gaps from drug discovery to patient care’. This event convened a diverse assembly of experts, scientists, and academicians from across the globe to deliberate on the latest advancements and challenges in the pharmaceutical sector. NIPiCON 2024 served as a pivotal forum for knowledge dissemination, networking, and collaborative endeavours aimed at shaping the trajectory of pharmacy practice and the healthcare sector. Distinguished speakers and scholars from nations including the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, France and Qatar delivered insightful talks, exploring cutting-edge breakthroughs within the pharmaceutical domain. The conference drew the enthusiastic participation of approximately 500 delegates from various regions of India and beyond. Dr Puran Sahu, Director & I/c CEO, National Dope Testing Laboratory, Government of India, New Delhi and Prof Rosnah Zain, Deputy Vice Chancellor, MAHSA University, Malaysia were among the prominent guests at the Valedictory function.

National Symposium on CME: Immunology in Health and Diseases
Institute of Pharmacy and Institute of Science, Nirma University in association with the Indian Immunological Society organised a National Symposium on ‘CME: Immunology in Health and Diseases’ from Feb 22-23, 2024. Dr Dinakar M Salunke, Emeritus Scientist & Former Director, International Centre for Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology, New Delhi was the Chief Guest and Dr Sanjeev Kumar, President, (R&D) ZRC, Ahmedabad and Dr Taruna Madan (IIS, President), Scientist G, National Institute for Research in Reproductive and Child Health, Mumbai were the guest of honour in the inaugural function. The valedictory function was graced by Dr Sunil K Arora, Professor, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh; Dr Amit Awasthi, Senior Professor, Translational Health Science and Technology Institute, Faridabad; Dr Sharvan Sehrawat, Associate Professor, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali and Dr Devinder Sehgal, Scientist-VII, National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi. One keynote session and 12 Invited talks were delivered by national scientists from institutes of national importance like the IISC Bangalore, National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi etc.

International Teaching Month   
Institute of Law organised the ‘International Teaching Month’ from Jan 29, 2024 to March 1, 2024. Resource persons included Hon’ble Judge Mel Flanagan, former Circuit Judge and Adjunct Professor, University of Wisconsin, Sarajevo, USA; Dr Ricky J Lee, Adjunct Professor, University of Notre Dame, Australia; Prof Stephane Mechoulan,  Professor, Dalhousie University, Canada; Dr Adam Dubin, Professor, Comillas University, Spain; Dr Muhammad Ekramul Haque, Professor, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh; Dr Christopher Symes, Emeritus Professor, University of Adelaide, Australia; Mr Franco Camatta, Director, Camatta Lempens Pty Ltd Lawyers, Adelaide, Australia; Dr Andras Hars, Senior Lecturer, Ludovika University of Public Service, Budapest, Hungary; Dr Petar Bacic, Vice Dean for International Cooperation, University of Split, Croatia and Dr Stephan Barnes, Associate Dean, Penn State Law, USA. The resource persons shared their experiences covering diverse legal topics such as Enforcement of foreign judgments, Asian law and cultures, Cross-border insolvency, and Constitutional protection of human rights.

Samanvaya 2.0     
Institute of Law organised its second annual Corporate Law and Finance conclave, Samanvaya 2.0 on May 3, 2024. The first half of the session was moderated by Mr Anupam Chaudhary, Principal Associate at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Company, which emphasised the theme ‘Emerging Issues in Merger Deals and Takeovers’.  The panel members included Mr Saurabh Sharma, Principal Associate at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas; Mr Jaimin Dave, Advocate at the High Court of Gujarat; and Mr Kinjesh Thakkar, India Head – International Tax and Transfer Principal at Linde Engineering. The second session was moderated by Mr Varun Akar, Assistant Manager at Grant Thornton Restructuring Services LLP on ‘Trends in Corporate Insolvency Law and Practice’. The panel members included Mr Sandeep Bhuraria, Senior Partner at Zeus Law Associates; Mr Somdatta Bhattacharya, Partner at Argus Partners and Mr Saurav Panda, Partner at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Company.

Conference on Mediation: A Tool for Arbitration and Commercial Courts 
Institute of Law organised a conference on ‘Mediation – A Tool for Arbitration and Commercial Courts’ on May 4-5, 2024. The event was graced by Hon’ble Mr Justice Vikram Nath (Judge of the Supreme Court of India) and Hon’ble Ms Justice Sunita Agarwal (Chief Justice of the High Court of Gujarat), among other dignitaries. Invited experts Mr Tariq Khan and Mr A J Jawad from The International Arbitration and Mediation Centre (IAMC – Hyderabad) shared insights on various topics, including the Commercial Courts Act, mediation sensitisation, mediation as a scientific and nuanced process, and the stages of mediation.

Kalp ’24 
Kalp, the annual student body festival of the Institute of Architecture and Planning was organised from Feb 26-29, 2024. The event started with the inauguration of the annual exhibition by the chief guests, Prof K T Ravindran, former HoD of Urban Design at the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi; Ar Gunther Benkert, a German Architect and Prof Kishor Trivedi, a practising architect based in Rajkot and academician at Indubhai Parekh School of Architecture. A variety of academic and cultural events were organised which included expert lectures by eminent architects and academicians from the field, hands-on workshops for students, and an exhibition of students’ work, among others.

Perspective Richter 10 
Institute of Management organised the annual cultural festival ‘Perspective Richter 10’ from Feb 23-25, 2024. It consisted of the management events and cultural events- Laughter Riot, Kissa Ek Baar Ka, Nirmatatva, Sufi Night and Somnium. Three pre-events were organised as part of Perspective Richter 10, namely Dhun – A jamming night with the melodious Tirth Thakkar, Thumka – The Bollywood sundowner in partnership with Earthsome and Carpe Diem – The Prom Night. The main event saw the participation of more than 400 students from prominent universities across India.

NuZeal 2024    
Institute of Commerce, under the auspices of the Student Welfare Board, Nirma University hosted the annual cultural festival ‘NUZEAL 2024’ from Feb 15-17, 2024. The opening ceremony featured a spectacular showcase of cultural performances, music, and culinary delights. Shri K K Patel, Vice President, and Shri G R Nair, Executive Registrar, graced the ceremony along with other officials. The festivities continued on Day 2, with presentations of dance, music, and literary skills, culminating in an energetic Drum Circle event in the evening. Day 3, featured a showcase of theatre, music, and fine arts, with captivating performances and a soulful display of classical music by esteemed artists.

Celebrating Global Connections: Nirma University hosts US Education Leaders 
The university hosted a dynamic gathering of ten international education administrators from the United States as part of the United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) programme on March 19, 2024. Led by Dr Ryan Pereira, Regional Head of USIEF, the delegation included University Provosts, Chief International Officers, and USIEF officials from esteemed institutions such as Wake Technical Community College and the University of Florida. Their visit centred around gaining insights into the Indian education system and fostering collaborations between both nations. Dr Anup K Singh, Director General, Nirma University provided an overview of the university and discussed potential partnerships.

Ind-AS-IFRS Workshop for Accounting Educators  
Institute of Commerce in collaboration with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and Indian Accounting Association (IAA) organised a workshop for Accounting Educators on March 16, 2024. The workshop saw 45 accounting educators from different universities of Gujarat, and experts in the field of accounting to discuss and delve into the intricacies of Indian Accounting Standards (Ind-AS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The workshop commenced with a keynote address by Dr Udai Paliwal, Director, Institute of Commerce who highlighted the significance and relevance of Ind-AS and IFRS in the current global business environment. This was followed by an address by Mr Prabhanshu Mittal, Head of Education Learning Partnerships (North, East, and West India for ACCA), and Prof Jayesh Pandya, a representative from the Indian Accounting Association, Gujarat. CFA Zaheer Sayed conducted a technical session and discussed the practical implications of Ind-AS for financial reporting. The workshop further provided networking opportunities to the participants through collaboration with ACCA, UK.

ReDo: Novum 2024       
ReDo: Novum 2024, the cultural festival of the Institute of Design organised during March 1-3, 2024 celebrated the design mindset of its students and set the stage for the institute to bring the design mentality to the world. A Drum Circle was hosted on the eve of the event. The three-day event included a display of installations created by the ReDo team, Novum exhibition, Movie screenings, live music and dance performances by the students, and interactive sessions by renowned artists.

Voter ID Registration Drive and Awareness Session    
The NSS Unit of the Institute of Management and the Students Welfare Board, Nirma University under the guidance of the Election Commission and the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation programme (SVEEP) organised a Voter ID Registration Drive and Awareness Session for the university members on March 28, 2024. The drive successfully facilitated the registration and updating of new election cards for 280 members.

Nirma Cup ‘Inter-University Sports Tournament’ 
Institute of Pharmacy organised an Inter University Sports Tournament from March 4-7, 2024 under the aegis of the Student’s Welfare Board, Nirma University. The event featured volleyball, chess, and table tennis tournaments for both male and female students. More than 220 participants from 22 universities/institutes across Gujarat participated in the events. For Volleyball, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad emerged as the winner in the male category, whereas Nirma University won in the female category. For Table Tennis, Shail Dharpale from the Institute of Architecture & Planning, Nirma University stood first in the male category, whereas Aayushi Shah from Smt S M Shah Pharmacy College, Ahmedabad stood first in the female category. Winners in Chess were Vrandesh Parekh and, Arunika Ghosh from Ahmedabad University, Ahmedabad for the male and female category, respectively.

ANVESH 2024 
ANVESH 2024, the 19th Doctoral Conference in Management was organised during March 15-16, 2024. The conference commenced with a workshop on crafting business case studies, which attracted over 40 participants. The Chief Guest for the inauguration ceremony was Dr Sunil Shukla, Director General, Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII). The event received 55 abstracts and 25 full papers, showcasing a broad spectrum of research interests. Workshops on systematic review and bibliometric analysis equipped attendees with critical research skills. The second day featured a research clinic for senior scholars and parallel tracks for presentations, fostering scholarly exchange.

Business Tantra
Business Tantra 2024, a national-level competition, organised by the Institute of Management comprised two rounds: a Quiz round on March 11, 2024 and a Business Simulation Round ‘Conglomerate’ on March 13, 2024. The Quiz round was related to knowledge of business, economics, and current affairs, with 15 teams advancing to the next stage. In the second round, teams navigated real-world scenarios, demonstrating strategic decision-making skills. A total of 350 teams participated in the event. Teams from IIT Kharagpur, Nirma University – Ahmedabad, and Christ University – Bangalore secured the top three positions respectively.

Pill Pitch Challenge-2024
To foster research among undergraduate students, a ‘Pill Pitch Challenge 2024’ was organised under the auspices of the Undergraduate Research Council (UGRC) at the Institute of Pharmacy on March 27, 2024. This competition was designed to address the fundamental aspect of research: the formulation of innovative research or start-up concepts. A total of 16 teams enthusiastically participated in the competition, presenting their ideas across five research scopes: Wet Lab-based, Marketing/Survey-based, Prototype/Model Making, Start-up Ventures and App Development. The winning teams have been granted seed funding to materialise their ideas into practical ventures.

Nirmaquest’24 
Nirmaquest’24, a state-level quiz competition was organised by the Institute of Pharmacy on March 19, 2024. A total of 47 teams from institutions across Gujarat registered in the Pharmacy and Non-Pharmacy category. Dr Milan Satia, President and CEO, Ethicare Clinical Trial Services, Ahmedabad graced the prize distribution ceremony as the Chief Guest.

International Conference on the Right to Equality 
Institute of Law organised the Second International Conference on the Right to Equality: Contemporary Challenges on March 15-16, 2024 in hybrid mode. The themes of the conference revolved around challenges to equality of status, equality of opportunity, equality of access, social equality and equal rights.  Guest speakers included Dr Usha Ramanathan (Indian Human Rights Activist) and Dr Mehrajuddin Mir (Chair Professor, MNLC, K R Mangalam University, Gurugram). The conference received participation from legal scholars and students across the world with 200 abstracts. There were over 100 presentations of research papers from academicians, scholars and students across India.

Intellectual Property Rights Conclave
The Centre for Intellectual Property Rights at the Institute of Law organised the Intellectual Property Rights Conclave on March 1-2, 2024. Speakers included Dr Hardik Parikh (Head, Training Division, GNLU), Ms Arunima Saraf (Assistant Professor, Jindal Global University), Ms Smriti Yadav (Partner, Khaitan and Company), Mr Jitendra Bohra (Associate Partner, Royzz and Company), Ms Shireen Dhar (Managing Associate, Luthra & Luthra Law Offices), Dr Ghayur Alam (IPR Chair, National Law Institute University, Bhopal), Dr Victor Vaibhav Tandon (IP Lawyer and Academic, Saikrishna & Associates) and Mr Lovepreet Manocha (Associate Partner, Saikrishna & Associates). The event aimed to empower professionals with crucial knowledge for navigating patent acquisition and enforcement. Led by distinguished faculty, the conclave fostered a commitment to excellence in the realm of IPR.

ILNU MUN 3.0
Institute of Law organised the third edition of the Model United Nations Conference from March 29-31, 2024. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Shri K K Patel (Vice President) along with Dr Anup K Singh (Director General) and Dr Madhuri Parikh (Director & Dean, Institute of Law). The conference brought together over 550 delegates across India. The conference included training and expert sessions designed to equip delegates with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively participate in committee sessions. Throughout the conference, delegates were provided with ample opportunities for networking and socialising, fostering a conducive environment for meaningful exchange of ideas.

Innovest 
E-Cell, Nirma University organised ‘Innovest’, a startup pitching event aimed at providing funding and a networking platform to emerging startups. The event saw the registration of more than 30 startups. The top 10 startups presented their innovative solutions and business models to a panel of esteemed investors on March 20, 2024. The event was judged by Mr Ravin Sanghavi (Expert Angel Investor), Mr Dharmesh Pandit (Growth Hacker, Startup Mentor), Mr Rajan Patel (Mentor – Help Businesses to Strategise and Grow their business), Ms Shrruti Jobanputra (Regional Director- The Alhpa Group) and Mr Pratik Patel (Managing Director, Yudiz). Siddhant Rao from the Institute of Technology secured the first position for ‘Providing Drone-based system’, and Saket Joshi from the Institute of Technology secured the second position for ‘Providing Aerotech’.

International Conference on Urban Transformation and Heritage Conservation
Institute of Architecture and Planning hosted the International Conference on ‘Urban Transformation and Heritage Conservation’ on Feb 27, 2024. The conference featured 13 presentations by esteemed speakers from India, Germany and Italy exploring the intricate relationship between historic cores and urban development.

National Students Conference
The 12th National Students Conference on ‘Humanitarian Protection with Modern Technology was held on Feb 16, 2024 at theInstitute of Law. The event hosted distinguished personalities from the legal and academic spheres including Padma Shri Dr Upendra Baxi (Professor of Law, University of Warwick, UK & Research Professor of Law, O P Jindal Global University), Hon’ble Justice K J Thakar, among others.

Constitutional Law Conclave
Institute of Law organised a Constitutional Law Conclave from Feb 19-20, 2024. The institute hosted distinguished personalities from the legal and academic spheres including Dr Upendra Baxi, Former VC, Delhi University and South Gujarat University and Emeritus Professor of Law University of Warwick, UK; Dr Ekramal Haque, Professor, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh; Dr Stephen Barnes, Associate Dean, Penn State Law, USA and Dr Peter Bacic, University of Split. The subjects of discussion were Modern Contours of Basic Structure Doctrine, Fundamentals Ideologies of Constitution of Bangladesh and Panel Discussion on Comparative Study of Judicial Review in Different Jurisdictions.

Workshop on Computer Aided Drug Design Software
The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Institute of Pharmacy hosted a workshop on ‘Computer Aided Drug Design Software’ in collaboration with Advent Informatics Pvt Ltd, Pune and the Centre of Continuing Education on Feb 17, 2024. Dr Pathan Mohsin Khan, Application Scientist at Advent Informatics Pvt Ltd, led the introductory session on software and facilitated hands-on training with the MolSoft software.

Seminar on Nano Drug Delivery
The Department of Pharmaceutics, Institute of Pharmacy, hosted a seminar on ‘Nano Drug Delivery’ (SNDD 2024) in collaboration with the Centre of Continuing Education on Feb 17, 2024 to provide insights into the latest methods and equipment used in nano-formulations. Resource persons included Dr Tushar Nahata, Senior GM, F&D, Zydus Life Sciences, Ahmedabad and Mr Suhas Yewale, Associate Director, Technocommercial, Sotax India Pvt Ltd, Pune. Following the sessions, there were interactive panel discussions and Q&A sessions where participants had the opportunity to engage with the speakers and delve deeper into the topics discussed. Additionally, there were hands-on training sessions conducted to familiarise participants with the practical aspects of nano-formulation techniques and equipment.

13th ILNU Antitrust Moot and Conference
Institute of Law organised the 13th ILNU Antitrust Moot and Conference, 2024 from Feb 23-25, 2024. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Shri K K Patel (Vice President, Nirma University), Dr Anup K Singh (Director General, Nirma University), Shri Andras Hars (National University of Public Service, University of Szeged), Dr Stephen Barnes (University Park, Pennsylvania), Dr Petar Bacic (University of Split, Croatia), Dr Ekramul Haque (University of Dhaka) and Dr Madhuri Parikh (Director & Dean, Institute of Law), among others. A total of 29 teams across India showcased their Advocacy Skills in this Moot Court Conference.

Boot camp on Developing Skills for Pharmapreneurs
E-Cell, Nirma University organised a boot camp on ‘Developing Skills for Pharmapreneurs’ from April 5-6, 2024. Mr Devang Patel, an ecosystem expert conducted the sessions. Ninety-two students from the Institute of Pharmacy participated in the event. Over the span of two     days, several sessions were conducted aiming to foster an entrepreneurial mindset amongst students particularly relating to pharmaceutical sciences. The participants commendably presented Elevator pitches and grasped the concept of the Business model canvas.

Celebration of Important Days

Republic Day 
Nirma University commemorated the 75th Republic Day of India with a spectacular celebration on Jan 26, 2024. The event was graced by Chief Guest Dr Bhagyesh Jha, former IAS, and Chairman, Sahitya Akademi Gujarat, who hoisted the national flag and delivered an inspiring address to the gathered audience. The proceedings included the rendition of the national anthem, a guard of honour, and an impressive march past by the NCC cadets. The event saw active participation from university officials, heads of institutions, heads of departments, faculties, staff members, and students. Together, they joined in the celebration to pay a heartfelt tribute to the nation.

International Women’s Day   
As part of the International Women’s Day Celebrations, the Women Development Cell (WDC) at Nirma University organised a panel discussion on ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress’ on March 7, 2024 hosted by the Institute of Law. Experts included Honorable Ms Justice Gita Gopi (Judge, High Court of Gujarat), Dr Jyotsna Yagnik (Retd Judge and Clinical Professor of Law, Institute of Law) and Dr Heta Baxi (Senior Physiotherapist, Kameshwar Medical Centre). The discussion centred on strategies to promote women’s health and empower them through legal knowledge, to foster awareness and dialogue on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Further, the WDC also organised a ‘Walk for Her’ campaign in collaboration with the Ashirwad Foundation to raise awareness about breast cancer. Participants, including students, faculty, and staff, walked to support the cause. Each 5000 steps completed enabled the organisation to conduct a free breast cancer check-up.

Institute of Pharmacy in association with the Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI) Gujarat branch organised a Guest Lecture as a part of International Women’s Day Celebrations on March 20, 2024. Ms Puunam Kaushik, Dy Managing Director and Chief – Corporate Affairs, Meteoric Biopharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd, Ahmedabad gave a thought-provoking talk and conducted a highly interactive session on ‘Find Your Everest’. Further, Dr Mamta Shah, Professor & Head, Pharmacognosy Department, L M College of Pharmacy graced the event on behalf of the APTI state branch and delivered an insightful talk on social issues faced by women.

NCC Unit at Nirma University attached to the 9 Gujarat Battalion commemorated ‘Shaheed Diwas’ on March 22, 2024 in coordination with the Student Welfare Board, Nirma University. The event was organised to remember the sacrifice of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar. The cadets organised events including Monoacting, Poetry, Storytelling, Singing, and Instrument Playing.

  • Dr Kruti Patel, Founder and Director – She & We, an Institute for Women Entrepreneurship, shared her insights during the ‘Ideathon Workshop 2024’ hosted bythe Entrepreneurship Cell (E-Cell) at Nirma University on Jan 20, 2024. The event centred around the fundamental concept of the ‘Golden Circle of Entrepreneurship’, featuring in-depth case studies that provided valuable insights.
  • Ms Mahima Paliwal, a practising physiotherapist, conducted a workshop on ‘Anxiety and Stress Management’ for the students and faculty of the Institute of Pharmacy on Jan 2, 2024. During the workshop, she talked about various techniques to deal with day-to-day stress and anxiety and what are the basics of psychology and how anxiety occurs.

Prof Baxi highlighted the nuances of case laws reading with students. He elaborated on the problems in the writing style of judgements by the Supreme Court and also shared his views on what to skip in reading a judgment.

  • Ar Rahul Bhushan, an eco-architect, entrepreneur, and educator conducted a session at the Institute of Architecture and Planning on Feb 6, 2024. He talked about his efforts in reviving Kathkuni and Dhajji Dewari, indigenous practices in the Himalayas. He discussed his experiments with vernacular techniques to design and build resilient natural buildings, publishing firsthand research on Himalayan craftsmanship, and fostering grassroots-level systems.

Women Development Cell Activities

  • A ‘Self-Defense Workshop’ for female students of the Institute of Pharmacy was organised as a part of the Women Development Cell activity on Feb 16, 2024. Mr Rushiraj Jaiswal from Rushiraj Karate Kungfu Federation, Ahmedabad conducted the workshop. Through interactive demonstrations and hands-on practice, the attendees learned how to recognise and respond to potential threats effectively.
  • The Women Development Cell, Institute of Law organised a distinguished lecture on ‘Implicit Bias’ on Feb 6, 2024 by Hon’ble Judge Mel Flanagan, Former Circuit Judge and Adjunct Professor, University of Wisconsin, Sarajevo, USA. The faculty members and students attended the session which highlighted the internalised stereotypes that unconsciously affect the perceptions, actions and decisions. The Cell also organised a ‘Self-Defence Workshop for Women’ on Feb 19, 2024 conducted by Hon’ble Judge Mel Flanagan.

  • Prof Krishna Kumar Yadav and Dr Tanushri Mokde from the Institute of Architecture and Planning, Nirma University conducted a ‘Clay workshop’ for the students of Institute of Law and, Architecture and Planning under the aegis of the Centre for Continuing Education. The workshop hosted on Feb 4, 11, 18, and Feb 25, 2024 was attended by 86 participants.
  • The Civil Engineering Department, Institute of Technology and Institute of Architecture and Planning, Nirma University under the aegis of Centre for Continuing Education conducted a workshop onBuilding Information Modelling (BIM) for Construction Project Management’ on March 2, 16, and 30, 2024.
  • Dr Anupama Ramkumar, CEO & Principal Consultant, Arkus Research Pvt Ltd, Ahmedabad conducted a workshop on ‘Medical Writing’ on March 12, 2024. The workshop provided insights into changing aspects of medical writing and its various components such as abstract writing, protocol writing and case report form.
  • The Department of Pharmaceutical Analysis, Institute of Pharmacy and the Centre for Advanced Instrumentation, Nirma University organised a workshop on ‘Analytical Instruments’ under the banner of Centre for Continuing Education on March 19, 2024. During the workshop, various analytical techniques were explained and hands-on training on analytical instruments like High-Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC), Gas Chromatograph (GC), High-Performance Thin Layer Chromatograph (HPTLC), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR), UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, Spectroflourimeter, Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) and Particle Size Analyzer was given to the participants.
  •  Prof Rattan Singh from Panjab University, Chandigarh conducted a workshop on ‘Research Methodology’ for the PhD students, Institute of Law from March 9-10, 2024; and for the LLM students on March 11, 2024.
  •  The Electrical Engineering Department, Institute of Technology conducted a national webinar on ‘Advances in Electrical Machines’ under the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) on April 6, 2024. Experts including Dr Carunaiselvane C, Assistant Professor, SRM Institute of Science and Technology; Dr Sashidhar Sampathirao, Associate Professor, Indian Institute of Technology Goa; and Dr Amit N Patel, and Dr Tejas H Panchal from the Electrical Engineering Department, Institute of Technology, Nirma University delivered sessions on current trends and opportunities in the field of Advanced Electrical Machines.

Field Visits

Related Study Programmes (RSP) by the Institute of Architecture and Planning
The Institute of Architecture and Planning organised RSP at Kerala; Nuwara Eliya, Srilanka and Kutch. Kerala Related Study Programme focused on ‘Learning by measuring’. Students got exposure to the built environment of the vernacular architecture of Kerala. It was planned from Dec 25, 2023 to Jan 4, 2024.

The intent of the field studio at Nuwara Eliya, Srilanka during Jan 5-20, 2024 was to make the students aware of the sensitive issues in hill towns. It focused on the importance of ecology and natural features, along with building synergy with the character of the town developed during the colonial era.

RSP at Kutch was organised to study the vernacular techniques of mud earth construction during Jan 2-13, 2024. Students also visited craft villages like Ajarakhpur and Bhujodi and understood the relationship between local crafts and spaces developed around them.

Visit to NISM, Mumbai     
Institute of Commerce organised an educational visit to the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), Mumbai during Feb 28-March 1, 2024 and March 22-24, 2024 for the students of Semester VI. Students gained a deeper understanding of the functioning of equity markets, including stock exchanges, trading mechanisms and regulatory frameworks. Students had the opportunity to experience real-time trading scenarios in a simulated environment, allowing them to apply theoretical concepts to practical situations. This hands-on experience helped students develop trading strategies, analyse market trends, and understand the dynamics of trading operations. The visit included interactions with prominent market intermediaries such as the National Stock Exchange, Bombay Stock Exchange and Multi-Commodity Exchange.

Visit to Mundra Port   
Institute of Commerce organised an industrial visit for the students of first-year during March 29-30, 2024 to Mundra Port encompassing visits to Adani Wind, Adani Solar, Adani Power, Adani Wilmar and Adani Ports, offering valuable insights into the diverse operations of the Adani Group and its contribution to the energy and infrastructure sectors. The students gained insights into port logistics, cargo handling, and maritime operations. Students were acquainted with renewable energy generation technologies and sustainability initiatives at Adani Wind and Adani Solar facilities. They learned about thermal power generation, energy infrastructure and challenges in the power sector. They further explored the manufacturing processes, quality control measures and supply chain management in the food and agribusiness sector.

Education Trip to Mumbai
Institute of Design students visited Zephyr Toys, a leading manufacturer, and Imagimake, a renowned educational toy design studio in Mumbai from March 15-16, 2024. This hands-on experience exposed them to the booming Indian toy industry and its potential. The trip emphasised a well-rounded design approach. The visit also highlighted the importance of simplifying design while maintaining user-friendliness and visual appeal. They observed the continuous design process, adapting to user feedback and market trends. The power of packaging in influencing consumers was another takeaway.

Visit to District Court
Institute of Law organised a visit for the students of Semester IV as a part of the Street Law Course to the District Court, Gandhinagar, and Consumer Commission, Family Court, Gandhinagar on March 27-28, 2023.  Students interacted with judges, lawyers and litigants during the court visit and also observed cross-examination of the witnesses.

Visit to Accculife Healthcare Pvt Ltd 
BPharm Sem VI and MPharm (Regulatory Affairs) students of the Institute of Pharmacy visited Acculife Healthcare Pvt Ltd, specialising in manufacturing parenteral products, as part of their industrial visit on May 2, 2024. Guided by an industry expert, students gained insights into challenges and regulations in parenteral production, focusing on quality assurance (QA) and regulatory affairs. They delved into GMP, GLP, and QC facets, observed manufacturing processes and reviewed critical documents like SOPs and Analytical reports. This experience enriched their understanding of stringent standards in parenteral manufacturing.
